Some people were put on this spinning rock of ours to help other people. Still others find it thrust upon them as a Job, or are using it as a {G O O D} job, get out of debt job for the uninformed.
I love computers. I think one of the most rewarding things for me is to make that which doesn’t work finally do. Without waxing poetic on being a technologist I find myself in the very nice position of doing something that i love for a living, at times. No one loves their job 100% of the time and I’m not going to lie to you and tell you everything is unicorn giggles and big white fluffy clouds. But I’d say that a good portion of the time I’m very happy.
Color me surprised then when i found out that people are scared to talk to me and ask me questions. I think i need to work on what people perceive me to be as well as my technical know-how. I know that we go to seminars to enhance knowledge but spend very little time in dealing with how we are perceived. There is something to be said for being a feared tech, people are less likely to break the rules you have laid out. Things generally work as they should when you’re not around. But the downside is that you are painted into a corner as unapproachable at times.
I will admit though it might help my mood if people would read the instructions eveyr now and then, possibly check the website. Just saying
