I am currently in charge of a network which has approximately 350 – 400 users in an isolated section of the Universities Network. I deal directly with the users. The story mentioned above concerning Microsoft ditching or possibly ditching password authentication is going to be nothing but a hassle for me. My network is a fully integrated Mac & PC environment. Mac and PC users alike log onto the ADS, have their home directories mounted automagically on the desktop and a common user environment. It took me quite some time to achieve this.
I guess its going to be back to the drawing board after this. Or I could attempt to keep a network full of legacy machines around. Either way this announcement spells nothing but trouble for the IT community. I’ll speak more on this later.
